World no tobacco day

Posted on: June 2, 2009

World No Tobacco day is observed around the world on May 31st of every year. This day was created by the members of the United Nations in 1987 to reduce the deaths due to Tobacco which is around 5.4 million deaths in a year. Since 1988, the World Health Organization has been presenting awards to the groups and the individuals who have been shown exemploarary efforts in the prevention of Tobacco abuse. The members of the UN, on 31st May 2008 had called for a complete ban in tobacco advertising. In India, the Health ministry had instructed the manufacturers of tobacco products to print the pictures of skull and bones and infected lungs. to educate the users about the ill effects. But not many had followed the Govenment’s order. The police in Tamil Nadu have confisticated products from shops in Kanchipuram where the products did not bear the warning. But the Government has given the deadline as June 15th failing which the products will be confisticatPoster Child Postered.

Its time people woke up to the bad news about tobacco. I have seen my friends smoking, some even go to the extreme of smoking two packets a day. These youths, who are supposed to be the “educated”, don’t want to understand the ill effects, because they have got addicted to it and do not want to accept that smoking is injurious to health. The picture to the left of this text is titled “Tobacco Industry’s Poster Child”. Click on this link to read more about it.

Wanna know what are the future effects of smoking a pack a day, click here.

You guys won’t be smoking after you see this!

Hope I am making some of you to think of quitting smoking!

Forming a habit is quite easy, but coming off is the most difficult part. There’s always time to start recuperating. Why don’t we all atleast try to reduce tobacco consuption and bring ourselves to deny tobacco! We all have the power to do it. Its all within us. We can tame our mind to our whims and fancies. Stop consuming tobacco and educate others about it.
